Staff, students and families at Sir William Stanier School are celebrating after the school was recognised as one of the Top 10% Most Improved Secondary Schools in England.

The award is a significant milestone in the school's improvement journey and reflects the determination of students, the dedication of staff and the support of parents and carers. While there are many factors behind improved outcomes, one message has remained consistent throughout the school's work: attendance matters.

Research consistently shows that students who attend school regularly achieve better academic outcomes. Every lesson counts, and students who are present each day benefit from high-quality teaching, stronger relationships with staff and peers, and greater opportunities to succeed.

Over recent years, Sir William Stanier School has placed a relentless focus on improving attendance. Through close partnerships with families, high expectations and a determination to ensure every student is in school and ready to learn, attendance has improved significantly. This has gone hand in hand with stronger achievement and better outcomes for students.

Mrs Robinson, Headteacher, said:

"We are incredibly proud to receive this recognition. It reflects the hard work of our staff, students and families. There is a clear link between attendance and achievement, and this award demonstrates what can be achieved when students are in school, learning and fully engaged in their education.

Whilst we are proud of how far we have come, we are not complacent. We know there is more to do and we will continue to be relentless in our efforts to improve attendance, raise achievement and provide the very best opportunities for every student."

The recognition celebrates the progress made so far, but school leaders are clear that it is not the destination. The focus remains firmly on continued improvement, ensuring that every student attends regularly, achieves highly and leaves Sir William Stanier School with the knowledge, skills and qualifications needed for future success.

As the school looks ahead, attendance will continue to be a key priority, underpinning its commitment to raising standards and helping every student fulfil their potential.

Because every day matters. Every lesson matters. And every student matters. 🏆
